ABOUT ME

Hello All,

My name is Clara Prosiliakos, I have been working in the Cicero Public School District 99 since 2002. I worked as a first-grade teacher for 9 years and currently, I am a bilingual reading interventionist. I decided to take technology courses because I, as a teacher, would like to integrate more technology tools into my instruction. I believe that students are interested in technology so if they can use the tools they love, they stay engaged and their learning process is more meaningful and fun.

My favorite tech tool is the Microsoft Office software (Word 2016, Excel, PP, Publisher). I would like to take advantage of all it offers for two main reasons. First, I want to apply them in my instruction and second, I would like to guide my students to use them in a more creative and efficient way to develop critical thinking skills. Currently, the school district is trying to incorporate tech in our student’s and teacher’s community. We work with smart-boards in each room and almost all classes have chrome books. The district has also offered PDs on Google certificate for staff. There is still a long way to go on tech matters but the district has a good attitude toward technology and its seed has already been planted.

In general, I can say that my opinion toward technology has changed throughout the years. Before, I found it hard, was afraid of it and felt it stressful to deal with. Today I am very curious about everything technology brings to the world to make our life easy, fast and fun.

I cannot wait to learn about the Multimedia Tools in Education course because I believe that the multimedia tools make learning exciting for teachers and students. The process of videotaping and podcasting inspires creativity and encourages students to demonstrate their learning skills in unique ways by using online multimedia tools. It also allows students to interact, communicate and grow together!

I am so excited about taking the Effective Technology Integration into Lessons and Curriculum course to learn how to integrate the tech resources into units of study. It not only includes tech digital tools but also covers intertwined content areas. I look forward to driving my tech digital strategies to help my students boost their learning skills in such ways as creativity and imagination, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.

In regard to the 21st century educational leadership course, I expect to amply a comprehensive perspective of the advantages of integrating digital tools in the classroom and diffuse it in the school community. Something that I am looking for is to become part of the professional learning networks (PLNs). Digital Technology in education opens many avenues for teachers to collaboratively work and build instruction that really matters to new generations.

I would like to add that throughout the Technology Specialist courses I have learned how to use the Google Suites for Education tools. Now Classroom is part of my instruction because it has helped me have efficient and fast communication with my students as it encourages collaboration time among them. Something I would also like to explore is to guide students in connecting with other cultures around the word to encourage critical thinking skills and problem/solver leaders.

I have noticed that ever since my classroom received the chrome books.
By the way, it was nice to see a familiar face in class!

  11. Clara, Love hearing how your opinion of technology has changed through the years and even through taking the courses. This is only my 2nd course but plan on continuing with the others whenever I can. I agree with you that learning about all the benefits of technology in the classroom does help put our mind at ease.
