I wanted to bring the Grant Writing assignment as an artifact because this was a new experience in my career as a teacher. Working in the process of writing a grant, I discovered all kinds of sites that support student’s learning and their requirements, and they were fairly easy to use.
I wrote a grant to the Civil War Trust which was found through the resources provided in this course. They offer a grant for field trips to Civil War and Revolutionary War Museums. Our 5th grade class, in the school that I work, study the Civil War. I believe that obtaining this grant would be beneficial to their studies. They will be analyzing artifacts and historic exhibitions that assist in their understanding of this important time in our history. The grant would be tied to other school activities such as: videos, research, and group discussions. If the grant is approved, it will afford money for transportation.
In conclusion, the grant writing assignment provided the opportunity to review possible grants that could be used for my students. These grants are there for many disciplines including: science, math, art, social science, etc. The assignment has given me the ability and desire to see if using such grants for me in the future would become a lot more common thing in my student’s learned planning. For my district, which has low-income families, it allows the children access to learning they normally would not have and allows them to travel to areas they might not ever see. I see this as one of my contributions to my district.
I would like to know your experiences in developing grants and relation to integrating them with technology. Please describe.
