Multimedia Tools in Education - Video Book Trailer

I would like to share a video book trailer of the book titled Surprise Party written by Michele Dufresne. This book is one of the Pioneer Valley Books collection based on narrating the adventures of two dogs, Bella and Rosie. The purpose of making this video book/movie trailer was to introduce the book and invite students to read and find out the plot and the details of how the problem in the story was solved. This particular story talks about Rosie’s birthday and how she feels when she thinks that Bella, her best friend, has forgotten her birthday. Instead, Bella surprised Rosie with a birthday party, a cake, presents and friends. This is a story that begins with feelings of sadness and worries and ends with a happy celebration.
For the creation of this video book trailer, I used the iPhone Movie/Book Trailer application that offers me a frame for downloading pictures and changing the text. Therefore, I was able to edit and adjust the content to the Surprise Party book to make this book trailer look as real as a production from Hollywood. I enjoyed using this multimedia tool for educational purposes. It is a creative way to motivate students to read and to be focused on the main events of the stories in a shorth length of time. I would look forward to working in the future to find other video book applications that offer options of adding, removing and extending the length time per slice. For example, I would like to explore PowToon and Animoto.
Another way that I could use the video movie/book trailers in the classroom is to allow students to create their own trailers by sharing book reviews, retelling stories, explaining processes and demonstrating what they know about specific skills and content concepts. It is a great way for students to create, innovate, communicate, collaborate/develop critical thinking and learning skills for the 21st century.

In sum, generating the video book trailer helped me learn about this multimedia tool itself and how it is applicable in the classroom. The process of creating the video book trailer strengthened my technology skills in regard using multimedia tools in education.
