Multimedia Tools in Education
The Multimedia Tools in Education course has increased my knowledge on a variety of multimedia tools and their usefulness in the classroom. During this course, class activities such as discussions, modeling, exploring and applying the concepts of multimedia tools in education were part of the strategies that helped me discover the impact of the multimedia tools for supporting student learning.
I learned different ways I can incorporate the audio recording tools in my instruction for helping students practice fluency, record messages to their classmates, record their answers for comprehension questions and use the voice recording from Google docs to express their understanding.
I also learned and explored different multimedia tools, applications and websites such as Voice Recording, Drawing and Screencastify on Google Suite, FlipGrip, Bandlab, , Screen-o-matic, iPhone Movie/Book Trailer, and Video recording .
Additionally, the following link Effective Communication Via Classroom Newsletter, from TeachHub.com, helped me to create an online newsletter for parents. I found that newsletters can be enhanced by visual and audio effects to call parent’s attention to their children education and improve school and parent’s communication. Some tips to have in mind at moments of building a newsletter are: less words, graphics, and a guide for parents telling them what to do with the info.
One area that I would like to explore more is the audio storytelling. I believe that storytelling has the magic to captivate student’s interest toward reading especially for students who struggle with reading skills. Through the audio storytelling multimedia tools, teachers can make readings available for all students regardless of their reading levels. Therefore, all students would be accountable for class discussions and participation.
In conclusion, the Multimedia tools in Education has increased my technology skills and strategies to support students learning with technological communication and collaboration tools.
I like the idea of using the online newsletter for parents. Me being a parent as well as a teacher, like to hear and know what is going on in my son's school/classroom. I think the news letter is a wonderful way to keep this communication going. Yes we could send home a hard copy with the kids, but how many of these actually make it home. I also liked the teachers ideas of having the student help create and give input into these newsletters. I can just imagine how excited and proud these students would be to show their work and tell their parents that they helped in creating the newsletter.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the newsletters being a great way for parents to keep up with what their children are doing in the classroom. I like the idea of making it online because even if a household does not have a computer, parents are able to use their smartphones to view the newsletters. I look forward to learning with you as we move onward with the cohort.
